Olive grove

Olive grove fertilisation programme

The programme calendar by treatment, the dose of each product and the technical data sheet of each reference. 2025 season.

01 · The programme

How we fertilise the olive grove

For olive trees in production, 4 foliar treatments a year: late February, early March; about a month after the first treatment; olive fruit set; ripening. The first three give doses per 1,000-litre tank; the fourth gives the dose without a tank volume. For young olive trees, one foliar treatment repeated every month. And an irrigation route common to all, with doses per hectare, two mixes (irrigation 1 and irrigation 2) and a minimum of three irrigations.

9 products from the catalogue have their own dose in the programme and are linked here to their technical data sheet; 2 more are named within the mixes.

04 · By period

The season, period by period

The programme sets each treatment by a timing – an approximate date or a state of the tree – not by time of year. Here we group those timings into the four periods of the olive grove season and list, in each one, the treatments that fall within it with the dose as written in the programme. “Young olive trees” and “Irrigation route, common to all” have no period in the programme and are not assigned to any: they are read only in the calendar, with their timing and dose.

Post-harvest and autumn

With the olives picked, the grove enters the coldest part of the year. The tree slows down, and what remains in the wood and the root after carrying fruit is what the next season will start from.

In our programme, this window carries no dated foliar treatment: the annual plan begins with the first treatment (late February, early March). The irrigation route, common to all olive trees, has no period in the programme either; its dose per hectare and the minimum number of irrigations are in the calendar.

  • No treatment in the programme is dated in this period.

Bud burst and spring

At the end of winter the olive comes out of dormancy: it buds, extends the year’s shoot and prepares for flowering. This is the period in which the programme concentrates its foliar applications: two consecutive treatments, roughly a month apart.

In our programme, this is where the first treatment (late February, early March) and the second (about a month after the first treatment) fall. Both go by the foliar route, with the dose per 1,000-litre tank, and each product is read below with its dose in that treatment.

The technical data sheets of FENORGANIC BORO, FENORGANIC COBRE PLUS and FENORGANIC NITRÓGENO 16 publish the same warning for their mix in the programme: pre-dissolve before adding to the tank, do not apply in high temperatures and do not change the doses without authorisation from our technical department. The text of each one is in the programme warnings.

Summer and stress

Summer in the olive grove is heat, light and little water. With the fruit already set, the tree goes through the months of stone hardening and slow olive growth under the water and heat stress typical of the time of year.

In our programme, the third treatment is set not by a month but by the state of the fruit: olive fruit set. It is the one that opens this period. It goes by the foliar route, with the dose per 1,000-litre tank.

The warning that matters most in these months is the one that the technical data sheets of FENORGANIC BORO, FENORGANIC COBRE PLUS, FENORGANIC NPK 7-7-7 and FENORGANIC NITRÓGENO 16 publish for their mixes in the programme: do not apply in high temperatures. It is a condition that is repeated more in summer than in any other period; and the dose, as in the rest of the programme, is not changed without authorisation from our technical department.

  • Third treatment · olive fruit set · Foliar · application dose

    • FENORGANIC CALCIO 880CALCIO 2 L per 1,000 L

Veraison and green harvest

At the end of summer the olive changes colour: this is veraison, the beginning of ripening. For table olives it is the time of the green harvest, picking while still green; for mill olives, the stretch leading up to harvest.

In our programme, this is where the fourth and last foliar treatment falls, the one at ripening. It is the only one of the four whose dose the programme gives without a tank volume, and that is how we publish it: the figure for each product is as written in the programme, without converting it to a 1,000-litre tank. After this treatment the programme dates no further treatment until the first of the next season.

07 · Questions

Questions about the programme

How many foliar treatments does the olive grove in production receive?

4: first treatment (late February, early March), second treatment (about a month after the first treatment), third treatment (olive fruit set), fourth treatment (ripening). The first three with doses per 1,000-litre tank; the fourth with no tank volume stated.

In which period of the season does each treatment fall?

Bud burst and spring: first treatment (late February, early March) and second treatment (about a month after the first treatment); Summer and stress: third treatment (olive fruit set); Veraison and green harvest: fourth treatment (ripening). Post-harvest and autumn: no dated treatment. “Young olive trees” and “Irrigation route, common to all” have no period in the programme and are read in the calendar.

Are there doses for young olive trees?

Yes: one foliar treatment repeated every month, with FENORGANIC UNIVERSAL and FENORGANIC NITRÓGENO 16. The dose is in the calendar and on each technical data sheet.

What goes by irrigation?

FENORGANIC UNIVERSAL, FENORGANIC FULVIC 40, FENORGANIC NPK 7-7-7: two mixes, irrigation 1 and irrigation 2, with a minimum of three irrigations with all the products. Doses are per hectare.

Are the products suitable for use in organic farming?

9 of the 9 products in the programme are suitable for use in organic farming according to the Ecocert input attestation. Their technical data sheet states this and links to the attestation.

Can a dose in the programme be changed?

Not without authorisation from our technical department. The programme doses are the ones in the calendar.
